Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, has voiced strong criticism regarding New York's Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, suggesting that his recent video advice could border on "violating the Constitution."
During an appearance on "Hannity," Noem highlighted Mamdani's public guidance on how residents can evade cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during enforcement actions.
This situation raises serious concerns about the legality of the statements made by a future mayor who, if elected, may actively encourage individuals to defy federal law enforcement.
Mamdani's video resurfaced after an attempted ICE raid in Manhattan, where he claimed his administration would prioritize protecting immigrant communities, framing the discussion around "rights" in interactions with federal agents.
However, Noem pointed out the potential legal repercussions of such rhetoric, stressing that public officials should not promote evasion of law enforcement duties.
“If he were mayor, he could be violating the Constitution by giving advice on how to evade law enforcement and how to get away with breaking the law,” Noem stated.
Noem further discussed the increasing threats against ICE and Customs and Border Protection personnel, attributing this rise in violence to the incendiary language used by some political figures.
“Absolutely,” she remarked, asserting that the irresponsible rhetoric encourages hostile attitudes toward law enforcement.
She expressed disappointment with politicians who express dissatisfaction with existing immigration laws, urging them to take the appropriate steps to amend those laws rather than undermining enforcement efforts.
“Their job is to actually have debate, to create a law that puts America first,” she said passionately, reaffirming her and Donald Trump’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and sovereignty of the nation.
Noem's firm stance serves as a reminder of the critical issues facing law enforcement today, and her call to action emphasizes the need for accountability and leadership among elected officials in America.
