Politicization of Christmas: Wokeism Attacks Our Traditions

Wokeism has infiltrated every corner of American life, and now, even sacred traditions are being politicized.

The latest example comes from Rev. Stephen Josoma at Saint Susanna Roman Catholic Church in Dedham, Massachusetts, who has taken it upon himself to use the Nativity scene to voice his far-left political agenda.

This Christmas, instead of the traditional display celebrating the birth of Christ, parishioners are greeted by a sign declaring, “ICE was here," along with a plea for people to report ICE sightings to a hotline aimed at protecting illegal immigrants.

Father Josoma's actions are being hailed by some on the left as courageous, yet many parishioners and Catholic leaders view this as a disgraceful politicization of one of Christianity's most cherished traditions. The Archdiocese of Boston, recognizing the divisive nature of this display, has urged the removal of the politically charged imagery, stating that churches should primarily focus on worship, not political activism.

However, Father Josoma remains steadfast in his approach, insisting that his Nativity scene is meant to raise awareness of the struggles faced by marginalized communities. In his view, the Holy Family would support his message, but many argue that this diminishes the spiritual significance of Christmas.

This incident raises questions about the broader implications of leftist ideologies creeping into our religious institutions. When did the message of hope and redemption become overshadowed by political rallies disguised as religious displays?

As conservatives, it's crucial to recognize these attempts to undermine our traditions and values. Many Americans yearn for a return to the core messages of faith, family, and country, rather than being bombarded by divisive political messages masquerading as religious duty.

It begs the question: should a place meant for prayer and devotion become a platform for political statements? The Christian community faces a challenge in navigating this new terrain, and it’s time to reclaim the true spirit of Christmas—one that centers around unity and faith, not division and discord.

Father Josoma's actions may have stirred up controversy this holiday season, but it also serves as a reminder for American Christians to stand firm against the politicization of their faith. The battle for the heart of our religious institutions rages on, and maintaining the sanctity of Christmas should be our highest priority.
