Breaking news: Texas Congressman Troy Nehls slams former House Speaker Paul Ryan for criticizing Donald Trump.

In a recent interview with Fox News, former House Speaker Paul Ryan expressed his view that Donald Trump is "unfit" to be president, citing the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol as a contributing factor. Ryan also stated that he wrote in a different name on his 2020 ballot and plans to do the same this year, but has not yet decided which Republican will get his vote.

In response, Texas Congressman Troy Nehls had strong words for Ryan, calling him a "piece of garbage" and suggesting that he should be kicked out of the Republican Party. "For Paul Ryan to say he's not voting for Donald Trump — that’s the problem with some of our Republicans," Nehls told CNN. "It’s guys like that."

Nehls went on to criticize Ryan for "spitting in the face of the leader of our party, Donald Trump." He also accused Ryan of being a "RINO" (Republican in name only) and called for him to "grow up a little bit."

Ryan, who was speaker for the first half of Trump's presidency, has publicly criticized Trump in the past. After Ryan said last month he would not vote for Trump, the former president took to his Truth Social platform to call for Ryan to be fired from the Fox Corp.’s Board of Directors.

In response to Trump's comments, Ryan laughed it off and said that he has "death, taxes, and weird stuff from Donald Trump" as the three certainties in his life. Ryan also accused Trump of twisting the definition of "RINO" and said that he wants to see the Republican Party return to being "based on principles, not personality or populism."

Despite his criticism of Trump, Ryan said that he believes the former president got "railroaded" in his New York criminal case, which he called "bogus." However, he said that the federal cases against Trump in Washington and Florida are "much more serious and much more legitimate."

The exchange between Nehls and Ryan highlights the ongoing divide within the Republican Party over Trump's role in the party and his fitness for office. While some Republicans, like Nehls, remain staunch supporters of Trump, others, like Ryan, have distanced themselves from the former president.
