According to a recent poll conducted by the Washington Post and the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, more citizens trust former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden to protect democracy.

The poll found that 44% of respondents believe Trump would do a better job at handling threats to democracy, compared to only 33% who said they believe Biden would be better for democracy.

This poll comes as many citizens are expressing concern over the weaponization of the legal system against political opponents, such as in the case of the Manhattan prosecution.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also weighed in on the state of democracy in the United States, saying that he believes the first presidential debate was a "depressing exhibition" of presidential potential.

Kennedy has also claimed that he is the only person who could beat Trump and Biden in the upcoming election, citing recent polling as evidence. He has expressed concern over the lack of specificity and fact-checking in the debate, and has criticized the setup and affiliation of the debate.

Kennedy has also announced that he is open to the idea of replacing Biden on the Democratic presidential ticket. In an interview with News Nation, Kennedy said that he would be open to talking to the Biden campaign if they reached out to him.

This news comes as the Biden campaign is reportedly in "free fall," and as Kennedy has been hosting his own debates after failing to meet the electorate threshold for CNN's debate.

It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the upcoming presidential election, but it is clear that many citizens are expressing concern over the state of democracy in the United States.
