Competitive eater Joey "Jaws" Chestnut takes his talents to Texas after fallout with NYC event.

Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, the world-renowned competitive eater, will be competing in a hot dog eating contest at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, this Fourth of July. This comes after a falling out with the organizers of the annual Nathan's Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest in Brooklyn's Coney Island.

Chestnut, who hails from Indiana, has been a regular at the Coney Island event since 2005 and has not lost since 2015. He set the current record of 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes in 2021. However, this year, he will be competing against soldiers in a 5-minute hot dog eating contest instead.

The dispute with the Coney Island event organizers, Major League Eating, arose due to a sponsorship conflict involving a deal with Impossible Foods, which makes plant-based hot dogs. Chestnut expressed his disappointment at not being able to compete in the event, stating that he loved the atmosphere and the crowds.

Despite the setback, Chestnut is determined not to sit at home and do nothing. He will be competing against four soldiers, with their combined total pitted against his. Chestnut is hopeful that the soldiers will push him to perform, as he fears being "lazy" in competition with amateurs.

The annual "Pop Goes the Fort" celebration at Fort Bliss is expected to attract around 15,000 people, mostly soldiers and their families. The event will also include fireworks and performances by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and the 1st Armored Division Band.

Chestnut will be doing a practice routine on Friday and will be ingesting oils to ensure a smooth digestive process before heading to Fort Bliss. This will be his first visit to El Paso, and he is excited about the prospect of getting on a tank.

Chestnut is hopeful that he can return to competing on July 4th next year, either with Netflix or at the Nathan's Famous contest. However, to head back to his cherished Coney Island event, he would need to make up with the event organizers.

Major League Eating has stated that they eventually conceded the sponsorship issue but were unable to reach an agreement with Chestnut. They have wished him the best of luck at his event.

This incident highlights the importance of fairness and transparency in competitive events. It also underscores the need for athletes to have the freedom to choose their sponsors without fear of retribution. As we celebrate America's independence, let us also celebrate the spirit of competition and the pursuit of excellence.
