Southwest Airlines is investigating a startling incident where one of its Boeing 737-800 planes inexplicably dived while landing in Oklahoma City, flying less than 500 feet over a residential neighborhood. The dangerously low flight of Southwest Airlines flight 4069 from Las Vegas was recorded by transponders and caught the notice of air traffic controllers.

Shortly after midnight, the commercial jet passed by Yukon High School after it was cleared to land at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. The plane eventually landed safely after it regained altitude and circled around the airport. Officials confirmed that the plane missed the approach when it first tried to land.

Residents of the neighborhood were frightened by the incident, with one person writing on Facebook that they thought they were having dreams about airplanes but actually had a 737 buzz their house. Another person said they were woken up by the plane and thought it was going to hit their house.

Southwest said in a statement that it was investigating the incident with federal officials. The airline emphasized that nothing was more important to Southwest than the safety of its customers and employees.

This incident comes as the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that it was probing how a Southwest plane dropped to just 400 feet above the Pacific Ocean en route to Hawaii in April. That plane plunged at an abnormally high rate of more than 4,000 feet per minute before pilots were able to tug the plane up.

The safety of air travel is of utmost importance, and incidents like these raise concerns about the reliability of commercial airlines. It is crucial that Southwest and other airlines take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of their passengers and prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
