David Axelrod, a former Obama administration official and CNN commentator, has expressed concern over President Joe Biden's performance during Thursday's debate with former President Donald Trump. Axelrod suggested that if Biden were replaced as the presumptive Democratic nominee, the Republican Party would be in trouble.

During the debate, Biden, who is 81 years old, struggled to articulate his points and appeared feeble, while Trump, who is 78, uttered a series of falsehoods. In one exchange, Biden stumbled over his words and declared, "We finally beat Medicare," prompting Trump to respond, "He did beat Medicare. He beat it to death."

Axelrod's comments were echoed by other Democrats, including MSNBC host Joy Reid, who reported that her phone was "buzzing throughout" the debate with messages expressing concern about Biden's performance. "The universal reaction was somewhere approaching panic," Reid said. "The people who were texting with me were very concerned about President Biden seeming extremely feeble, seeming extremely weak."

The debate has raised questions about Biden's ability to inspire voters and whether he has the stamina to continue serving as president. Axelrod's comments suggest that the Republican Party may be in a stronger position than previously thought, as they have a clear contrast to draw with Biden's perceived weaknesses.

As the election season heats up, it remains to be seen whether Biden's performance in the debate will have a lasting impact on his campaign. However, Axelrod's comments highlight the concerns that some Democrats have about Biden's ability to lead the party to victory in November.
