A Rhode Island high school administrator made a bizarre request to the staff in her district to help pay the human smuggler who brought one of their students across the border.
The email sent Thursday from Stefani Harvey, an assistant principal at Mount Pleasant High School, ended up on social media.
"Hello Team," the email read. "We have a student who came to America with 'Coyote', which is a group that helps people. This group gives you a time frame to make a payment of $5000 dollars to those, who bring them into the states."
The email was confirmed by a representative of the Providence Teachers Union on a radio talk show.
"Our student needs our urgent support to raise another $2000 to meet his goal of $5000 by February 1st, 2023," Harvey continued.
On Friday morning, an email from the school's principal said the funds would be returned because the request was inappropriate.... (Read more)
