The Republican Party was founded to end slavery while Democrats sought secession to preserve the practice. History shows that Democrats fought to expand slavery while Republicans fought to end it. From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. Republicans fought to free blacks from slavery and amended the Constitution to grant blacks. Republicans founded the HCBU's and started the NAACP to counter the racist practices of the Democrats. It took Republicans six decades to finally enact civil rights laws in the 1950's and 1960's, over the objection of Democrats.
