California's Democrats Showcase Leadership Failures with Becerra, Steyer

The dysfunction of California's Democratic leadership reached a new low this week as the state faces the prospect of having to choose between two of its most lackluster political figures: Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer.

In a recent poll, Becerra, the former Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Biden, has taken the lead in the race for governor.

This comes as little surprise when you consider the disastrous record he has amassed in Washington, D.C.

Becerra’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was marked by a lack of clarity and competence.

While he was expected to be a prominent voice for the Biden administration, his awkward performances left many questioning his abilities. During a recent interview, he even asked a reporter if the piece would be “a profile” rather than an aggressive inquiry, revealing his discomfort with facing tough questions.

Despite Becerra’s significant blunders, such as being unable to account for 85,000 unaccompanied minors who were handed over to international human trafficking networks, he remains a top contender thanks to the backing of Hispanic Democrats hoping for representation in California.

This situation exemplifies a broader trend within the Democratic Party: the absence of any meaningful accountability or standards for effective leadership.

The party's fixation on identity politics has resulted in nominations based on race and ethnicity instead of merit.

Becerra’s main opponent, Steyer, a billionaire environmentalist and hedge fund manager, is no stranger to controversy either.

His 2020 presidential run failed to gain traction, and his current campaign is largely driven by his personal wealth rather than public support.

Steyer’s proposals, which include radical changes like abolishing ICE and implementing extreme taxation schemes, indicate his disconnection from the everyday challenges faced by Californians.

What this ultimately means for California is grim.

The state has been led by Democrats for over 16 years, resulting in a series of inadequate policies and a striking decline in public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life.

Steve Hilton, a more conservative candidate, would likely provide necessary competition in this primary, advocating for a more competent and thoughtful governance rooted in reality rather than ideology.

However, it seems unlikely that a majority of California voters will seize the opportunity to choose someone who truly represents their interests over the same old faces who have contributed to the state’s downward spiral.

The impending nomination of either Becerra or Steyer represents not just a loss for Californians but a deeper reflection of the Democrat Party's aversion to excellence, leaving conservatives feeling frustrated yet ready to fight for change.

As the situation unfolds, one thing remains clear: California deserves better leadership, but whether it can achieve that remains uncertain.
