Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that more protective face masks and testing equipment are coming. The state has secured 1 million new N95 masks, he said, and business magnate Richard Branson is delivering 150,000 testing kits to the state on a 747 from Hong Kong. Elon Musk is providing 1,225 new ventilators.
12:53 p.m. Governor says 1 million Californians are seeking unemployment insurance: Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that 1 million state residents have filed for unemployment insurance since March 13 as coronavirus shutdowns have have thrown them out of work.
12:42 p.m. Apple donating 10 million masks: Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on Twitter that the company is donating 10 million masks it has procured to help U.S. medical workers respond to the pandemic. “These people deserve our debt of gratitude for all of the work that they’re doing on the front lines,” Cook said in a video. The company was previously set to donate 9 million masks.
