Congresswoman elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said staff interns are underpaid and that her $174,000 congressional salary is ‘a living wage.

Cortez said she went to a dive bar and spoke with several bartenders, managers and servers who worked for Congress. Cortez called wages for DC staffers a disgrace.

“This week I went to dive spot in DC for some late night food. I chatted up the staff.

SEVERAL bartenders, managers, & servers *currently worked in Senate + House offices.*

This is a disgrace. Congress of ALL places should raise MRAs so we can pay staff an actual DC living wage,” Cortez tweeted.

Cortez then called her congressional salary of $174,000 a year a “living wage.”

“It is unjust for Congress to budget a living wage for ourselves, yet rely on unpaid interns & underpaid overworked staff just bc Republicans want to make a statement about “fiscal responsibility.”

If that’s the case, they can cut down on staff to pay them well. Or raise the MRA.”

Calling a $174,000 salary a “living wage” is a slap in a face of hard all working Americans. How about we lower the salary of members of Congress to the average American salary?

This young lady thinks money grows on trees. Democrats may not know this, but she is embarrassing the party, considering she is called the future of Democratic Party.
