Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday said he will not allow Senator Jeff Flake to introduce legislation to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller from being fired.
McConnell said the legislation to protect Mueller “isn’t necessary.”
Last night, Flake said he along with Senator Chris Coons, will bring S.2644, the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act to the senate floor to protect Mueller.
“When the Senate convenes next week, @ChrisCoons and I will ask for unanimous consent to bring S.2644, the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, to a vote on the Senate floor. After the firing of The AG, it is more important than ever to protect the Special Counsel,” Flake tweeted.
President Trump ripped Flake for using the special counsel for his own “future.”
“Jeff Flake(y) doesn’t want to protect the Non-Senate confirmed Special Counsel, he wants to protect his future after being unelectable in Arizona for the “crime” of doing a terrible job! A weak and ineffective guy!” Trump tweeted.
