House speaker Paul Ryan says Congress should hold disgraced anti-Trump FBI lawyer Lisa Page in contempt of Congress for ignoring the subpoena. Page is refusing to testify before Congress and is defying a congressional subpoena because she doesn’t want to answer questions or be held accountable.
Paul Ryan says he's very disturbed by this.
“I am very disturbed by this,” Ryan said at a news conference. “Congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional. ... She was a part of a mess that they have uncovered over at DOJ. She has an obligation to come testify.”
“If she wants to come plead the Fifth, that’s her choice. But a subpoena to testify before Congress is not optional. It’s mandatory. She needs to comply.”
Rep. Mark Meadows had this to say:
Contrary to what her attorneys are telling the media, we just learned Lisa Page actually DID review documents at the FBI yesterday. Her failure to appear before Congress this morning had little to do with 'preparation'--and everything to do with avoiding accountability.
The House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Page to appear in a closed-door interview Wednesday, but she refused.
Rep. Jim Jordan:
Lisa Page ignores congressional subpoena, once again showing the double standard. One set of rules for regular Americans, a different set for the Swamp!
Rep. Ron DeSantis:
Anti-Trump FBI lawyer Lisa Page is defying a congressional subpoena because she doesn’t want to answer questions or be held accountable. Pathetic.
