Another Former First Lady Comments On "Zero-Tolerance", And It's Bad!

Following Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, another former first lady has added her name to the list of people criticizing the zero-tolerance immigration policy.

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter has commented on the zero-tolerance immigration policy, calling it a "shame to our country". Carter joins the group of former first ladies that have criticized the policy. People on both sides of the party line have been critical of the policy, and the unfortunate outcome that involves separating children from their own parents. For some reason however, it isn't the parents attempt at committing a crime with their children present and involved, or the Democrats who are crying "shame" but refuse to work with the administration on immigration reform that are being criticized.

The blame is being placed squarely on the shoulders of President Trump.

Here's what the former first lady, Rosalynn Carter, had to say:

‘When I was first lady, I worked to call attention to the plight of refugees fleeing Cambodia for Thailand. I visited Thailand and witnessed firsthand the trauma of parents and children separated by circumstances beyond their control. The practice and policy today of removing children from their parents’ care at our border with Mexico is disgraceful and a shame to our country.” — Rosalynn Carter

Michelle Obama also backed the position of former first lady Laura Bush, after Bush authored an op-ed for the Washington Post on the situation.

When the police find a child in the custody of parents who are committing a crime, they remove that child from the parents. Where is the outcry then? These parents bring their children along to commit the dangerous act of crossing our border illegally are committing a crime. A dangerous one. They chose to put their children in that position. They are fully aware of the dangers, and are also aware of what the possible repercussions of their actions are. How is the Trump administration at fault for that?

I agree with what our President is doing. For some reasons, some of the people cannot see the correlation of what these illegals are doing and what happens when a U.S. citizen is arrested and taken to jail! They would be appalled if our police and sheriffs took the children to jail with them! These illegals come here KNOWING they are breaking the law, they KNOW that they are putting their childrens’ lives at risk, yet they come anyway! We MUST enforce our laws to protect our borders until the wall is built! The fault lies with these illegals, not with our enforcement officers or our government! Not to mention, many of these children are NOT the children of the illegals, they are made-up families of human trafficking children!

I believe if we would just cut off the benefits, the enticement to flood our borders would be greatly reduced; that is the reason most of them are coming in anyway! We cannot afford to take care of the world! We have so many of our own living in poverty that we need to focus on rather than those who knowingly come to America to live off of our system!!

I am behind our President; it is, in many cases, a sad situation, but it is not ours to FIX!
