Ratings for the 2018 Winter Olympics are continuing to collapse.
At the halfway point of the XXIII Winter Olympics, things are certainly feeling a little chilly for both Team USA and NBC.
As last night’s primetime coverage displayed even with the surprise silver in the short-track speedskating that John-Henry Krueger scored, both the medal count for America’s athletes and the ratings for the broadcaster are struggling to gain traction in the PyeongChang games.
Currently, Team USA is in sixth place with 10 overall medals, just behind the Russian competitors, and tied for third in gold medals with Canada’s haul of five. As for the Comcast-own broadcaster, the 2018 Olympics needs a miracle on ice or two to escape being the lowest rated and least watched games ever.
On the second Saturday of the South Korea-set competition, NBC and NBC Sports Network pulled in a 10.4/19 in metered market result for their joint primetime coverage. Down a hard 20% from the previous February 15 and February 16 lows of the 2018 Games, that’s the worst rating so far for PyeongChang coverage. It is also a drop of 32% from the melded NBC and NBCSN results of February 10, the first Saturday of these games.
On the flipside of sorts, last night’s primetime on NBC and NBCSN was up 0.9% from the equivalent NBC-only broadcast evening of the Sochi games back on February 15, 2014. Yet, when you compare just NBC’18 to NBC’14, last night was down 9% from the second Saturday of Sochi 2014, which was a low at the time for those games out of Russia.
Adam Rippon, the anti-Trump and anti-Pence figure skater hired by NBC, has declined the offer in favor of staying in the Olympic VIllage.
Adam Rippon, frequent critic of Vice President Pence and one of the first two openly gay U.S. athletes in Winter Olympics history, has decided to turn down an offer to do television for NBC.
USA Today’s Christine Brennan had reported earlier on Sunday, that Rippon had accepted a position as a network correspondent with NBC for the duration of the games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
However, several hours later, Brennan reported that Rippon “decided overnight that he would rather remain as an Olympian.” Brennan’s source “who would not speak publicly because of the sensitivity of the matter.” Said that Rippon did not “want to relinquish his official Olympic standing, give up credential, move out of Team USA housing and miss [the] closing ceremony.”
Rippon told NBCSN via USA Today, “I am so flattered that NBC wanted me to work as a correspondent, but if I took this opportunity, I would have to leave the Olympic team and I would have to leave the [Olympic] Village. It’s so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that meant so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events.”
Rippon has been an extremely vocal critic of Vice President Pence.

It’s Official! NBC Has Hired Him!
NBC has hired the anti-Trump, anti-Pence figure skater who made his entire Olympic experience about hating the Trump White House.
Chicksontheright.com reported: Adam Rippon decided to make his entire Olympic experience about hating on the Trump White house.
EPITOME of class, y’all.
Anyway… he didn’t really do all that well, but people just LOOOOOOVE the fact that he craps on VP Pence for things he’s entirely wrong about….
So OF COURSE NBC hired him.
NBC announced Sunday that they have hired Adam Rippon to serve as a commentator for the remainder of the 2018 Winter Olympic games in PyeongChang.
“Adam Rippon really is turning out to be the witch who can’t be killed,” the lede of NBC’s announcement reads. “After three strong skates in his Olympic debut, Rippon will serve as an NBC correspondent for the rest of the PyeongChang Games.”
Rippon was a part of the USA squad who locked up a bronze medal in the team skate, but he failed to reach the podium in the men’s individual event, finishing 10th.
One of the United States’ first two openly gay competitors, Rippon made headlines off the ice for his comments on both President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
Rippon said earlier in the games that he would skip Team USA’s upcoming trip to visit Trump at the White House and threw shade at “the same Mike Pence who funded gay conversion therapy” prior to the opening ceremonies.
“I don’t think the current administration represents the values that I was taught growing up,” he said in an interview with USA Today. “Mike Pence doesn’t stand for anything that I really believe in.”

NBC Hires Olympic Athlete Who Attacked Vice President Pence!
NBC has hired Adam Rippon, the figure skater who attacked Vice President Mike Pence, and stated that he would not visit the White House because of President Trump.
From USA Today:
U.S. figure skater Adam Rippon, the openly gay Olympic team bronze medalist who has become one of the best-known names at these Games, has been hired by NBC to work as a correspondent during the remainder of the Olympics, NBC spokesman Greg Hughes told USA TODAY Sports Sunday evening.
Rippon, 28, will work for the network on a variety of platforms, including television, digital and social media, Hughes said.
Always outspoken, Rippon made news in mid-January when he criticized Vice President Pence in a story in USA TODAY. When Pence fired back little more than an hour after the story appeared online, Rippon’s profile was on the rise.
He also is one of a few U.S. athletes who said they will not go to the White House for a post-Olympic celebration hosted by President Trump.
