nbcchicago.com reports: An officer was shot at the James R. Thompson Center Tuesday afternoon, officials confirmed.

The incident was reported around 2 p.m., but little information on what happened was released.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said an officer assisting a tactical team was "shot by an assailant." The officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where their condition was not known.

Multiple sources say the officer shot is a high-ranking member of the police department.
