Bloomberg reporter Emily Chang’s “Brootopia” - a scathing examination of White Male Privilege in Silicon Valley - was one of the most talked-about tech books of last year, thanks in part to a memorable scene that has come to represent Silicon Valley’s “bro-centric” culture, which is reportedly dominated by men who didn’t lose their virginity until they were 25.
Earlier today, the infamous party - which reportedly took place in June 2017 - was reported to have taken place at the home of disgraced VC Steve Jurvetson of DCF.
And just a few minutes ago, Business Insider reported that, as it happens, Tesla CEO Elon Musk attended the party in question, but said he thought it was a “corporate costume party”. He apparently left at 1 am after standing around and talking about technology and entrepreneurship with a few other attendees.
Musk didn’t witness any drug use, or sex, for that matter.
In a statement to Business Insider, a spokesperson for the Tesla and SpaceX founder confirmed he was there, but that he believed it was a "corporate" costume-themed party and spent his time there talking about technology and business before leaving at 1 am.
They said: "Elon was at the party for a couple hours and left around 1am after talking with several DFJ-funded entrepreneurs about technology and building companies. His impression was that it was a corporate party with a costume theme, not a 'sex party', and there was no indication that it would become one after he left."
Another attendee who spoke with BI also wrote that he didn't see any sex. "I don’t want this to be anti-climactic, but I didn’t see any sex or drugs," he wrote.
“I went home at 12:30 am, and I guess sex parties don’t really kick off until the boring f--kers go home. I didn’t exactly know it was a sex party, and I got bored at some point and went home."
We imagine Musk probably had to leave early to work on the Tesla Model 3 - which was memorably mired in "production hell" at the time.
reuters.com reports: The Model Y, to be built on the same platform as the Model 3 sedan, was tentatively scheduled to begin production in mid-2019, Reuters reported in June.
The electric vehicle maker first announced plans for a pickup truck last July, alongside a “master plan” to develop a commercial truck, a public transport bus and a compact sport utility vehicle.
Musk had said in April that the pickup truck would be unveiled within 18 to 24 months.

Elon Musk Sets His Sights on Chicago High-Speed Loop
Tech guru, Elon Musk, has his sights set on building a high-speed loop system for Chicago.
The Boring Company, owned by Musk, will bid to build and operate a loop rail system connecting O'Hare International airport, and downtown Chicago.
If chosen, Musk would have to fund the project himself.
nypost.com reports: Elon Musk said on Tuesday his underground tunnel-digging startup, the Boring Company, will compete to fund, build and operate a high-speed Loop connecting O‘Hare Airport to downtown Chicago.
Musk, the chief executive of electric car maker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, recently started the Boring Company to build transport tunnels for the system, which he says would be far faster than current high-speed trains and use electromagnetic propulsion.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel asked respondents to present proposals to develop, design, equip, finance, operate and maintain an O’Hare Express operating system through a public-private agreement with Chicago.
“Although cost estimates for the project are not yet known, the RFQ (Request for Qualifications) stipulates that the O‘Hare Express Service will be funded solely by project-specific revenues (like fares or advertising) and financed entirely by the concessionaire,” Mayor Emanuel’s office said in a statement.
“There will be no taxpayer funding for the project.”

Elon Musk Just Warned Of A Threat Greater Than North Korea!!
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has warned that AI technology is a greater threat to our existence than North Korea.
ZeroHedge.com reported: With the world's attention focused on the Korean Peninsula and the growing threat of global thermonuclear war, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has bigger things to worry about. In a series of 'alarming' tweets on Friday, Musk warned the world should be more worried about the dangers of artificial intelligence than North Korea.
Having unveiled his apocalytpic vision of the world a few weeks ago...
“Until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react because it seems so ethereal,” he said.
“AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation instead of reactive. Because I think by the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it’s too late.”
“Normally the way regulations are set up is a while bunch of bad things happen, there’s a public outcry, and after many years a regulatory agency is set up to regulate that industry,” he continued.
“It takes forever. That, in the past, has been bad but not something which represented a fundamental risk to the existence of civilization. AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization.”
Musk was quickly admonished by another Silicon Valley billionaire as Mark Zuckerberg suggested Musk is exaggerating, noting:
“I have pretty strong opinions on this. I am optimistic. I think you can build things and the world gets better. But with AI especially, I am really optimistic.
“And I think people who are naysayers and try to drum up these doomsday scenarios — I just, I don't understand it. It's really negative and in some ways I actually think it is pretty irresponsible.”
And while the feud grows...
Musk took to Twitter to turn the fearmongery amplifier to '11'...
“If you're not concerned about AI safety, you should be. Vastly more risk than North Korea,” he tweeted.
“Nobody likes being regulated, but everything (cars, planes, food, drugs, etc.) that's a danger to the public is regulated. AI should be too,”
