CLINTON COUNTY, Iowa — On Saturday, the last county will finish the recount in Iowa's 2nd Congressional District race.
Republican Mariannette Miller Meeks currently leads Democrat Rita Hart by only eight votes. That's down from her 47 vote lead before the recount in an election where more than 300,000 Iowans cast their ballots.
The state's deadline to certify their votes is Monday, so it's a critical time for Clinton County. While it's Hart's home county, Miller-Meeks' campaign doesn't expect to see a change in the results.
"We don't expect that it's going to change much or at all frankly," said Eric Woolson, with Miller-Meeks' campaign.
Miller-Meeks' campaign said their lead was cut to single digits due to inconsistent recounts across the counties.
"The Hart campaign has wanted to count votes one way when it's advantageous to them and count them another way when it's to their favor," Woolson said....(Read more)
