1 suspect arrested in connection with drive-by shooting of federal officer outside courthouse

A person was arrested on suspicion of shooting a court security officer during a drive-by shooting outside the Sandra Day O'Connor U. S. Courthouse in downtown Phoenix on Tuesday morning.

Officials said the individual shot the security officer shortly after 11:30 a.m. outside the courthouse, located at the corner of Washington Street and Fourth Avenue, before fleeing the area.

Sgt. Ann Justus, a Phoenix Police Department spokesperson, said the officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Justus did not identify the officer.

Washington Street was blocked off from Fourth to Fifth avenues as police and firefighters swarmed the scene.
