Illinois mayor 'embarrassed' after wife gets criminally cited by police for violating stay-at-home order

Mayor Brant Walker warned the residents of Alton, Illinois, that he would be asking police to crack down on people disobeying a statewide stay-at-home order, but his wife apparently didn't get the memo.

Police on Sunday enforced the order issued by Gov. J. B. Pritzker on March 21, moving in at 1 a.m. to stop a party in Hiram's Tavern, including Walker's wife, Shannon, being held in defiance of the mandated closure of nonessential businesses and ban on social gatherings.

Shannon Walker, along with every other person in the bar, was given a criminal citation for reckless conduct, a Class A misdemeanor in Illinois. Hiram Lewis, the owner of the tavern, was taken into custody after police found an outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection to a domestic violence case.
