Iowa governor defends decision not to issue 'stay at home' order

Gov. Kim Reynolds on Friday continued to address her critics, talking more about why she hasn't issued a "shelter-in-place" order.

"We have taken significant steps to mitigate the virus," she said during her regularly scheduled news conference.

Standing behind her decision not to declare a "stay-at-home" order for all state residents, Reynolds acknowledged it's been a divisive issue, but she said the state must remain united.

Noting that schools and businesses have been closed or modified through state orders, she said data show the state is ahead in its steps to mitigate impacts of the virus.

If additional action is needed, she said she will move forward.

"But for now, data and metrics are not showing it's necessary," she said.
