Poll: Sanders Rises, But Socialism Isn't Popular With Most Americans - www.npr.org

Excerpts from article:

...Poll: Socialism Unpopular Even As Sanders Rises In 2020 Race An NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds that socialism is unpopular with voters overall, even as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is gaining in the Democratic primary.

...If socialism is so unpopular with Americans, how can Sanders be on the rise in the Democratic primary? Because Democrats and, more specifically, progressives view socialism favorably.

...More than a quarter of voters under 45 said they would not vote for a Democratic nominee who is not the candidate they support, including 10% who said they would not vote for president at all, 11% who would vote for someone else and 5% who said they would vote for Trump.

...Independents were the least likely to say they would vote for whomever the nominee is - just 65% said so - 15% said they would vote for someone else, 12% said they would not vote for president and another 3% would vote for Trump.

...The poll includes 1,164 registered voters with a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points and 527 Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents with a margin of error of 5.4 percentage points.
